I wish they just ported the official mod event strings into base game. It lacks map settings, scenarios, and even with the amount of culture combos, it actually lacks true variety as you invariably end up playing the same way with some few variations on how achieve things. But as the sun sets on my attractive empire, Im not that impressed with it either. The last era is usually inconsequential (unless you feel like going Soviet). I find I have so much leeway as long my early Ancient and Classical era setup is good. You will fall behind although at current balance, it doesn't matter that much usually. Usually tech feels off around Medieval to Industrial if you didn't pick a science culture. For pacing, I play normal speed on various difficult (mostly HK) and I'm fine with tech speed. Now I feel like Neolithic is more random than before. It was broken, but I liked the pacing of not rushing your start. I liked the old stay longer on Neolithic era to setup your game. game also has killer music and just a ton of depth without feeling overwhelming.In terms of gameplay? I'm kinda in the fence. it makes it really enjoyable because you can really fine tune the difficulty to be just what you're looking for versus other games where often you might be desiring something in between two difficulties, and those difficulties are just awful hamfisted giant bonuses applied to the AI ala Civ.įor example theres actually specific settings for the aggression level of the AI opponents that are independant from the resource/income settings and overall difficulty. Old World also has very competent AI with the best options i've come across in any 4x game for controlling the difficulty and you can set specifically the bonuses (if any) resource income they get. totally agree about the narrow time period as well and would also love to another focused era game from Mohawk. learning through the gruesome reality of the vulnerability of humankind.
